17-07-01 Clough Engineering has won a $ 44 mm ($ 86 mm) share of a gas contract in India and has tipped it will win more work in the emerging Indian market. Clough Engineering, an arm of the listed Clough Group, and South Korea's Hyundai Heavy Industries will share the $ 80 mm contract for onshore and offshore construction at the Lakshmi field about 260 km north of Bombay in the Gulf of Cambay.
Cairn Energy India, one of the joint venture partners in the Lakshmi field, last year hired Clough to build two offshore platforms and pipelines for $ 35 mm at the Ravva field in the Bay of Bengal, off India's east coast. Clough managing director Brian Hewitt said one of Clough's strengths in growing its Asian business was its ability to win further work from clients as it developed relationships with them.
"We are confident that more opportunities will open up for us there," he said. "This new work confirms the soundness of our strategy to compete in the emerging market of India."
Dr Hewitt said Clough
would be responsible for all onshore work for the Lakshmi field, including building a gas treatment plant, while Hyundai would complete the offshore construction. The project was scheduled to begin immediately with the delivery of first gas by June next year and completion by September.
"While our recent oil and gas contract wins in the region have been principally for offshore developments, this new contract highlights the group's competitive advantage as the only Australian contractor with the capabilities to undertake both onshore and offshore oil and gas works," Dr Hewitt said.
