Sasol reduces interest in Nigerian gas-to-liquids project
04-09-08 South African oil and gas company Sasol said it reduced its economic interest in a Nigerian gas-to-liquid project to 10 % from 37.5 %.
Chevron, Sasol's partner in the project, will buy the 27.5 % interest in the Escravos project, Sasol said. The deal is subject to regulatory approval.
As a result of the deal, Sasol said its operating profit for the year took a hit of 362 mm rands ($ 45.3 mm), with a net effect after tax of 112 mm rands ($ 14 mm).
On May 13, Sasol had reportedly said the cost of the project was expected to increase to $ 6 bn.
