20-02-09 The Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mr Mohammed Sanusi Barkindo said the corporation has put in place a short term gas supply plan to deliver about 1.2 bn cf of gas to the domestic market by the end of this year.
The NNPC boss said the development is a deliberate move towards meeting the 6,000 MW target for this year by the federal government aimed at boosting power supply in the country.

He disclosed this during a facility visit on gas supply projects in the Niger Delta. According to him, NNPC is currently working in West Niger Delta with Panocean, NPDC, Total, Chevron, Shell, Agip and ExxonMobil to meet the supply plan on schedule.
The GMD noted that already some amount of gas from the projected gas supply plan was being contributed into the gas supply system. He said the NNPC and the IOC's have agreed to set aside a predetermined amount of gas for the domestic market in line with the federal government's directive in that regard.

The GMD announced: "The gas master plan infrastructure blueprint has provision for three Central Gas gathering and Processing Facilities (CPFs) in the Niger that would be established aimed at flooding the domestic market with gas. Wet gas would be treated from these facilities."
"While we had historical shortages, the gas supply short term plan would go a long way to address the hiccups."
