Mercuria Energy opens Nigerian operations office

17-02-09 Mercuria Energy Group, one of the world's five largest private oil and petroleum products traders, has opened its Nigerian operations office with a pledge to partner with other stakeholders in developing the sector.
Spokesman of the organisation, David Ensor, expressed delight at the development, adding that as a growing market, Nigeria could be tapped for the benefit of other countries.

Ensor posited that Mercuria Energy believes in Nigeria and its potential, adding that it was important and strategic that they have their presence firmly established in the country with a view to getting to know more about Nigeria, its people as well as participate in doing business that would grow the nation's economy. Mercuria, Ensor said, would be doing business in both the upstream and downstream sectors of the oil industry.
Mercuria Energy, which has its main trading floor in Geneva, Switzerland, has, for several years now, been building both its sales of petroleum products in Nigeria and purchases of crude oil.

"The company wants to establish its presence in the community so that we can be closer to both our customers and our suppliers" said the spokesman, adding that the office is expected to play a role in optimising the logistics of shipping imports and exports along the West African sub-region.
Mercuria Energy Group is an international group of companies that has been active over a wide spectrum of global energy markets, including crude oil and refined products, petrochemical products, natural gas, power, vegetable oils, and carbon emissions.
