05-03-09 The Akpo gas and condensate field offshore Nigeria started production.
Discovered in 2000, the Akpo gas and condensate field is operated by Total, with 24 % interest. Located in Block OML 130 approximately 124 miles (200 km) from Port Harcourt, Akpo's water depths range from 3,600 to 5,600 feet (1,100 to 1,700 meters).

Started in 2005, the Akpo field development project includes 22 production wells, 20 water injection wells and two gas injection wells tied-back to an FPSO.
With a storage capacity of 2 mm barrels of oil and a production capacity of 225,000 boepd, the Akpo FPSO is moored in 4,347 feet (1,325 meters) of water. Measuring 1,017 feet (310 meters) long and 200 feet (61 meters) wide, the vessel includes two processing trains to separate gas and water, 17 topside modules, and accommodations for a crew of 240.

Peak production for the field is estimated at 225,000 boepd. Nearly 80 % of this output is in the form of condensate, which will be exported via a buoy located just 1.2 miles (2 km) from the FPSO.
The gas will be piped 90 miles (150 km) to the Amenam/Kpono gas production platform; from there, it will be sent via pipeline to the Bonny liquefaction plant.
