Rolls-Royce to deliver more turbines for Nigerian projects

26-02-09 Rolls-Royce will deliver another eight RB211 industrial gas turbines for Nigeria's offshore oil and gas fields as part of contracts from Total worth $ 150 mm.
The units, for a floating production, storage and offloading vessel in the Usan field and a fixed platform in the Ofon field, bring the total number of RB211s ordered by Total for use offshore Nigeria to 19. The packages for Usan and Ofon are due for delivery to the module fabrication yards by the fourth quarter of 2009.

The RB211 engines will be manufactured at the Rolls-Royce plant in Montreal, Quebec. Packaging of the electrical generating sets and gas compression units will take place at the company's Mount Vernon, Ohio facility.
Six of the RB211 gas turbine packages will be electrical generating sets, three for each field, to provide up to 160 MW of electrical power for the new installations. All of the packages will also feature exhaust mounted waste heat recovery units. The remaining two sets will be gas compression packagesto export gas to another facility or to re-inject gas into the oil field to enhance oil recovery in the Usan field.

The Usan field is 100 km (62 miles) southeast of Bonny Island in water depths from 750 to 850 meters (2,461 to 2,789 ft). The field is scheduled to become operational in 2012 and produce around 180,000 bpd of oil.
The second phase of the Ofon field development will increase output from 25,000 bpd to around 100,000 in 2012. Gas produced from Ofon will be piped to the Amenam complex.
