NITC invests in oil transport in Caspian Sea

17-03-04 The National Iranian Tanker Company (NITC) has invested $ 280 mm in oil transport in the Caspian Sea within the framework of a swap project.
The managing director of the company announced that the sum was used to build six 63,000-ton ships worth $ 240 mm, to install a SAL system through investing $ 6 mm in Makhachkala port of Russia, Neka port of Iran and Aktau port of Kazakhstan.

Mohammad Suri further noted that since there was no suitable dock for berthing ships in the Caspian ports, an undersea pipeline will be installed at the said ports at a depth of 16 metres.
"Using 63,000 ton ships can lower freight from 14 dollars to 6 dollars on average," he noted.
The official stated that the cost of carrying oil within swap context varied from 13-16 dollars, adding, "If more than 50,000 barrels of oil is transported in the Caspian Sea, the National Iranian Tanker Company would be able to reduce to figure to $ 10."
