Double-hulled chemical carrier Stolt Achievement launched
Jan. 20, 1998 Stolt Achievement, the first in a trio of double-hulled chemical carriers ordered from French shipbuilder Societe Nouvelle des Ateliers et Chantiers du Havre by Stolt-Nielsen subsidiary Stolt Parcel Tankers, has taken to the water.
The 37,000 dwt Stolt Achievement is part of a 10 ship series of vessels, dubbed the Innovation-class, ordered by Connecticut-based Stolt-Nielsen, the world's largest deepsea parcel tanker operator, from yards in France and Denmark.
Part of a $ 200 mm contract placed at the shipbuilder in 1995, the Stolt Achievement is well behind schedule.
The original contract stipulated a July 1997 delivery for the lead ship. Offering a 40,000 cu m product capacity in 44 integral cargo tanks plus four deck tanks, the ground-breaking design employs a diesel-electric propulsion and power plant based on medium-speed engines and makes use of duplex stainless steel throughout the cargo section.
