New owner for North Sea pipeline system

05-08-09 The Abu Dhabi National Energy Company has taken over operatorship of the North Sea Brent System Pipeline and facilities.
The United Kingdom arm of the company, TAQA Bratani, will take over from Shell UK Exploration and Production as the operator of the system.

The Brent System is a partnership between companies who each own a share in the system. It consists of a 150 km pipeline connecting the TAQA-owned Cormorant Alpha platform to the BP-operated Sullom Voe Oil Terminal in the Shetland Islands.
The Brent System is responsible for transporting approximately 100,000 bpd of oil from 20 North Sea fields, accounting for almost 60 % of the Sullom Voe Terminal input and approximately 8 % of UK's offshore oil production.

TAQA Bratani Managing Director Leo Koot said, "This is the latest step in our North Sea activity program, which this year already has seen TAQA increase production from our operated assets, initiate drilling and near-field exploration."
"Operating the Brent System is a serious undertaking. TAQA has recruited experienced staff and installed first class IT and systems infrastructure to enable us to advise and liaise with our Brent System Partners."
