Companies to invest $ 634 mm in Peru

08-01-09 Peruvian power companies in 2009 are forecast to invest $ 634 mm, according to the energy and mines ministry's general power department.
Of the total, $ 392 mm will go to generation. Private investment will account for $ 310 mm, with Egenor and Kallpa Generacion topping the list at $ 73 mm each. Other private investment in generation will come from Edegel ($ 49.3 mm), Peruana de Energia ($ 46.9 mm), El Platanal ($ 32.8 mm) and Enersur ($ 25.3 mm).

State investment in generation represents $ 81.8 mm, which will be channelled through Electroperu.
On the distribution front, $ 224mn will be invested, with public and private investment representing $ 131 mm and $ 92.7 mm respectively. Public investment in this area will be led by Electro Oriente with $ 42.3 mm, followed by Electronoroeste ($ 30.1 mm) and Hidrandina ($ 16.2 mm).

The bulk of private investment in distribution will come from Edelnor ($ 56 mm) and Luz del Sur ($ 35 mm).
In transmission, $ 18.5 mm is due to be invested, with $ 17 mm coming from private company Repsol. Total sector investment in 2008 reached $ 696 mm (preliminary), compared to $ 629 mm in 2007.
