Reliance begins seismic survey on offshore Colombian blocks
19-01-09 India's Reliance Industries Ltd. (RIL) has begun a seismic survey on the Borojo Norte and Borojo Sur blocks offshore Colombia, a spokesperson for hydrocarbons regulator ANH told.
The Indian company contracted the Discoverer 2 seismic vessel from Norway's Wavefield-Inseis to conduct the survey. The vessel began activities on December 28 and is expected to complete the survey toward the end of January. The data acquired will be used with data from surveys conducted in 2006 and the 1980s.
The Discoverer 2 will move to other exploration activities in the Caribbean when the Reliance survey is concluded, the spokesperson said. Previous reports in Colombian local press had suggested the vessel was contracted by ANH.
The Borojo North and Borojo blocks are west of mainland Colombia and reach depths of 1,500 m, according to Reliance's website. Each block measures around 4,000 sq km.
Reliance in December 2007 converted a technical evaluation agreement signed in 2005 with ANH for the blocks into
a full E&P contract.
The company said at the time it could invest up to $ 5 0mn in the two blocks over four 18-month exploration phases and drill up to two wells on each block. The company has the right to exit the blocks at the end of each phase.
