18-02-09 Bp Trinidad and Tobago (bpTT) has moved a step closer to bringing its newest platform Savonette into production. Savonette's deck was installed on 7 February 2009 by the HLV Thialf. Over the next few days the deck structure and jacket will be welded into position, completing the platform installation phase. Savonette's jacket was installed in 2008.
"Savonette demonstrates bpTT's long-term commitment to Trinidad and Tobago," bpTT chairman and CEO Robert Riley said. "This latest addition to our offshore infrastructure will allow us to maintain our position as the leading operator in the local industry and among bp's businesses worldwide."

The Savonette platform was designed and built in Trinidad and Tobago and is the fourth platform in a series of normally unmanned installations constructed locally following Cannonball in 2005, the first platform to be designed and built locally. Savonette is capable of producing 1 bn cfpd and will be tied into bpTT's Mahogany B platform. First gas from Savonette is expected in by the end of 2009. With Savonette installed, bpTT now has a total of 12 offshore platforms.
"The success of the Savonette project highlights the viability of the local platform fabrication industry," Riley said. "When we took the decision to design and build Cannonball locally, one of our objectives was to ensure that there was a high level of local content."

Locals accounted for about 77 % of the Savonette project man-hours in 2008. Local content accounted for about 25 % of total spend. The project has also progressed safely without any lost-time incidents.
BpTT has operated for just over 9.3 mm man-hours without a lost-time incident.
