Light plans to invest $ 272 mm in Brazil
17-02-09 Brazilian power company Light plans to invest reais 626 mm ($ 272 mm) in 2009, company investor relations director Ronnie Vaz Moreira said. The company in November revealed its intention to invest at least reais 390 mm this year. Light invested reais 547 mm in 2008, a 51 % increase from reais 362 mm in 2007.
"We intend to keep increasing our investments year after year," Moreira said.
One of the company's main focuses is to fight power losses. Light's losses over the grid load totalled 20.23 % in 2008, down by 0.45 percentage points from 2007. The company has been investing in conventional and new technologies to achieve the regulated loss level of 19.15 %.
"Our goal is to invest around reais 215 mm to reduce power losses in 2009," the Light executive added.
