Trinidad to Tobago pipeline complete by next year
12-08-09 By the end of next year natural gas will be piped from the offshore gas fields on Trinidad's northeast coast, to Tobago in a $ 500 mm project undertaken by the National Energy Corporation (NEC).
Concrete coating of 12,500 lengths of pipe is nearing completion at NEC, La Brea Industrial Estate, according to a release from the National Gas Company (NGC).
The natural gas pipeline will run northwards from BHP's Angostura Platform Complex to the Cove Estate in Tobago. The 58-mile pipeline will transport gas southwards and connect to the NGC's existing gas transportation network in Beachfield, Guayaguayare.
Some 150 nationals are employed on the project in Tobago, 58 Tobagonians through civil contractors, Carillion, according to Tobago Project Manager, Charles Thavenot.
NGC, together with the Tobago House of Assembly is facilitating a technology course for 20 Tobago nationals at the University of Trinidad and Tobago, Point Lisas.
