Iran to begin exploitation of joint oil fields
31-07-02 With the conclusion of three new contracts by March 2003, the exploitation of all the oil fields jointly owned by Iran and its neighbours will begin. The General Director of the NIOC, Mahdi Mirmoezi, elaborated on last year's performance and the future objectives of the company.
He said that three new oil and gas fields were discovered last year, which increased known oil reserves of the Darja oil field by 500 mm barrels and gas reserves by 300 mm cm. According to him, the Soroush oil field facilities, which were completely destroyed during the Iraqi imposed war, were rebuilt last year. It is now producing 60,000 bpd of oil.
Mirmoezi considers the exploitation of the South Pars gas field and the signing of a buy-back deal to exploit the Darkhovin oil field important achievements for the year 1380 (March 2001-March 2002) and the first four months of the current Iranian calendar year.
