Iran and Malaysia sign MoU to set up power plant in north-western Iran
15-01-07 Iran and Malaysia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on construction of a power plant in north-western Iran. The MoU was signed by Iran Power Development Company (IPDC) and Malaysian SKS Ventures in the presence of Malaysian ambassador to Tehran.
Under the document, Malaysian part will cooperate on construction of a combined cycle power plant in Zanjan on the BOT (build-operate-transfer) scheme. It will have a capacity of 500 to 1,000 MW.
Mohammad Behzad, managing director of the IPDC expressed hope that the final agreement on the project would be inked soon, adding, "We are keen on further cooperation with Malaysian side to construct more power plants."
On his part, Seyed Mokhtar al-Bokhari, the head of al-Bokhari Foundation and owner of SKS Ventures anticipated that the project will be a good start for expansion of Tehran-Kuala Lumpur ties.
"As two Muslim states, we should prioritize use of potentials and value-added of our domestic industries instead of using Western-made
equipment," he stated.
On January 8, National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) also signed a MoU worth $ 16 bn with Malaysian SKS Ventures to develop two gas fields, Golshan and Ferdows, in southern Iran.
