Iran has 20 petrochemical companies prepared for privatization
02-09-08 At present, 20 petrochemical companies, all subsidiaries of the National Petrochemical Company, are prepared to be privatized, NPC Managing Director Gholam-Hossein Nejabat said.
Nejabat, who is also the deputy oil minister for petrochemical affairs, added, "If the Iran Privatization Organization (IPO) approves the transfer of other petrochemical companies as a single block or holding companies, more companies will be privatized."
He said Carbon Iran, Farabi, Abadan, Kharg, Isfahan, Arak, Shiraz, Razi, and Polika Karaj are the petrochemical companies that have been wholly privatized so far, adding that 52 of the 81 subsidiaries of the NPC have been semi-privatized and the other 29 companies are state-run.
"In order to privatize the NPC as a single block or holding companies, we have provided IPO with a comprehensive report and IPO's decision will be announced soon," Nejabat explained.
However, on the sidelines of Iran's 1st conference on privatization, IPO Managing Director Gholam-RezaHeidari Kord Zanganeh said, "At present, we have no plan to transfer the NPC as holding companies."
