Iran signs latest oil and gas deals with foreign companies

10-02-09 Following are the latest oil and gas deals signed by Iran with foreign oil and gas companies.

China
Chinese oil firm China National Petroleum Corp (CNPC) signed a deal with the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) on Jan. 14, 2009 to develop the north Azadegan oil field. The deal is worth $ 2 bn in its first phase.
Under the first phase lasting 48 months, the capacity would reach 75,000 bpd. The tenure of the project is 12 years.

Malaysia
NIOC signed a gas deal worth $ 14 bn on Dec. 1, 2008, with Malaysia's SKS group. The deal involves a project to produce liquefied natural gas (LNG) and the development of two gas fields, Golshan and Ferdows.
Exports of crude and 120,000 barrels of gas condensates are also part of the agreement.

Turkey
Iran signed a preliminary deal with Turkey on Nov. 17, 2008, which includes development of phases 23 and 24 of South Pars gas field. Some 50 % of gas produced from these fields will be sold to Turkey.
The deal alsocovers the transfer of 35 bn cm of gas a year to Europe. Initial investment estimates were around $ 3.5 bn.

Croatia
INA signed an exploration contract in April 2008 for exploration of the Moghan block.

Switzerland
Swiss Utility company Elektrizitaetsgesellschaft Laufenburg (EGL) signed a natural gas purchase contract deal with the National Iranian Gas Export Company on March 17, 2008.
The 25-year deal was worth between EUR 10 bn and EUR 22 bn. EGL expects to receive about 5.5 bn cm of gas a year.

Russia
Russia's Gazprom agreed on Feb. 19, 2008, to jointly develop two or three blocks of South Pars as well as Gazpromneft's participation in oil production projects in Iran.
It has already invested an estimated $ 2 bn in phases 2-3 of South Pars together with French and Malaysian firms.

Italy
Italy's oil and gas group ENI is leading the $ 1 bn second phase development of the Darkhovin oil field development to take output to 160,000 bpd from 50,000 bpd. Iran has asked ENI to plan a third phase to lift output another 100,000 bpd.
Italian power utility Edison and NIOC signed a $ 107 mm exploration contract on Jan. 9, 2008, to help develop the Dayyer offshore block in the Gulf.

Vietnam
PetroVietnam signed a $ 115 mm exploration contract for the Danan block in 2008.

Belarus
Iran signed a contract with Belarus Oil Company on Sept. 5, 2007, which allows it to produce from Iran's southern Jofeir oil field.
The deal is worth $ 450 mm and will produce 40,000 barrels of oil per day.

Oman
Iran signed a memorandum of understanding with Oman to go ahead with a $ 1 bn contract in 2005.
The deal allocates 30 mm cm of gas daily to Oman from 2008 and export volumes will further rise to 70 mm in 2012.
