28-03-01 Southern California Gas says it's planning improvements to its transmission and storage system which will increase natural gas supplies available to its customers. The upgrades will enable it to deliver an additional 175 mm cfpd of natural gas into its pipeline system by year end, the Los Angeles-based company says. This is an increase of 5 %, or the amount of natural gas to serve 1.3 mm residential customers per day or to power 1,200 MW of new electric generation, it says.
The project involves increasing compression horsepower at three delivery stations to boost the amount of natural gas that can be transported in existing pipelines. Also involved, it says, are adjustments to its natural gas storage operations that will help increase the in-state supply of natural gas by 24 bn cf -- or enough gas to serve a half mm residential customers for one year.

Southern California Gas is the nation's largest natural gas distribution utility, serving 18 mm consumers through 5 mm meters in central and southern California.
