Marathon Oil and Marathon Ashland select Requisite Technology

09-10-01 Requisite Technology(TM) announced it has been selected as the electronic catalogue content management and finding solutions provider by Marathon Oil Company (MOC) and Marathon Ashland Petroleum (MAP).
As part of the agreement, MOC, MAP, and their suppliers will participate in the Requisite Supplier Hub, a Web-based content platform that provides a collaborative environment for suppliers and buying organizations to create, manage and distribute online catalogue content for integrated procurement initiatives. The Requisite Supplier Hub enables MOC, MAP, and their suppliers to update product and service information in real-time, increasing the accuracy of content and providing a single location for contracts and pricing information.

"Web-based technology is transforming the way we do business," said Bob Kukla, vice president, Global Procurement for Marathon Oil. "As more and more of our procurement activities migrate to electronic formats, the access, organization and management of catalogue information becomes strategically important. Content management software is a critical component of our ability to meet the needs of our customers and suppliers."
"Our eProcurement System will provide a user-friendly interface for employees to shop for materials and services. An integral part of this new process includes access to on-line catalogues of materials and services. Requisite Technology solutions will enable us to manage our catalogue information, which will contain items and prices previously negotiated with suppliers. The eProcurement System will capture purchasing transaction data to be used for spend analysis, strategic sourcing initiatives and management reporting," adds Neil Naiman, purchasing & commercial services manager of Marathon Ashland Petroleum.

Catalogue content created for Marathon Oil and Marathon Ashland Petroleum will be classified under the Requisite Unifying Structure (RUS(TM)), an open, global content organization standard built for end-user finding. Catalogues organized in RUS provide consistently categorized product and service information and allow buyers and marketplaces to unify content with diverse product and service information from multiple suppliers.
RUS also allows individual suppliers to preserve business relationships, product differentiation and brand awareness. RUS allows suppliers and buyers to participate in marketplaces or private procurement initiatives running on platforms provided by e-business application vendors such as SAP, Oracle, Ariba, and Commerce One. "Marathon's selection of Requisite reflects our strength in solving the e-catalogue problem for buyers as well as suppliers in vertical markets," said Louis Faust III, president and COO of Requisite Technology. "Requisite is committed to providing the best tools and services to drive successful collaboration between buyers and suppliers."

Marathon Oil Company (MOC), based in Houston, TX, and a part of the USX-Marathon Group and a unit of USX based in Pittsburgh, PA, is a large, fullyintegrated oil firm engaged in the worldwide exploration and production of crude oil and natural gas. Through Marathon Ashland Petroleum, the company also refines, markets and transports petroleum products in the United States.
