BHP's Neptune development starts production
07-07-08 BHP Billiton and its partners in the Neptune development in the deep-water US Gulf of Mexico said the project had started production following remediation work to correct flaws found in the platform's hull.
The Neptune tension-leg platform, which is capable of processing 50,000 barrels of oil and 50 mm cf of natural gas per day, is moored in 4250 feet of water on Green Canyon Block 613 about 120 miles (190 km) off Louisiana.
BHP Billiton operates the platform with a 35 % stake, while US producer Marathon holds 30 %, Australia's Woodside holds 20 % and Maxus Exploration holds 15 %.
Start-up of the single-column Seastar TLP was delayed when weaknesses were found in the vessel's pontoons. SBM-Atlantia, the hull's builder, reinforced parts of the pontoon on site, BHP Billiton said.
