Canada willing to share costs and rewards of pipeline
20-01-09 The Government of Canada has said it is willing to share the cost and rewards of a 1,200-km pipeline to bring Arctic gas to markets in the south, the so-called Mackenzie Northern Gas Pipeline project.
Environment Minister Jim Prentice was quoted as saying he supported the pipeline and offered "a contribution to infrastructure and pre-construction costs" for the multi-billion-dollar trunkline.
ConocoPhillips, Imperial Oil, ExxonMobil and Shell are in consortium with the Aboriginal Pipeline Group to bring arctic gas from the Northwest Territories to oil province Alberta in the south.
