Kazakhstan may join Sino-Russian pipeline project

09-05-02 Kazakhstan is considering the possibility of taking part in laying an oil pipeline from Russia to China, the project planned by Yukos, Transneft and the China Petroleum Company, foreign minister Kasymzhomart Tokayev told.
According to Tokayev, involvement in the Russian project will enable Kazakhstan to optimise the laying of its own oil pipeline to China.

Though a relevant agreement was reached with the China National Petroleum Corporation in 1995, China postponed that project in the absence of guarantees that the pipeline would get adequate amounts of oil.
