Inter RAO UES begins importing energy from Georgia

31-07-08 Russian electricity export-import operator Inter RAO UES began importing electricity from Georgia to Russia through the Kavkasioni power line, the company said.
"This is the first step to realizing a plan for bilateral electricity supplies and the transit of Russian electricity via Georgia to Turkey, as agreed by Inter RAO UES and Georgian energy producers," the company said.

The imports currently amount to 250 MW, with a peak capacity of approximately 370-380 MW.
Inter RAO UES is a power supplier with a number of generation and distribution assets in Russia and abroad, and its total generating capacity amounts to 8,000 MW. In Georgia, RAO UES owns stakes in power company Mtkvari Energetika, Khrami hydroelectric power plants, and distribution company Telasi.
