14-09-99 The Georgian company Geoengineering and the U.S. company Chevron have signed an agreement on a project for the overhaul of a 232-km pipeline running across Georgia from Khashuri to Batumi.
This announcement was made by Gia Chanturia, president of the Georgian International Oil Corporation (GIOC).
Both sides have begun working on a feasibility study for the project, estimated at a total of $ 70 million.
In addition, the project includes plans to restart oil terminals in Khashuri and, possibly, in Batumi. Geoengineering transports the Caspian oil produced at the Tengiz deposit in Kazakhstan by rail via Georgia. The company intends to use the new pipeline to increase transit volume.
