Korea Electric plans to buy fourteen coal-fired power plants in China
26-05-08 Korea Electric Power, South Korea's biggest electricity producer, plans to buy 14 coal-fired generators in China through its local joint venture.
Gemeng International Energy, a venture based in the northern province of Shanxi, received board approval on May 21 for the purchase, Korea Electric said in a regulatory filing. The Korea exchange had asked the utility to provide details of its China plans.
Seoul-based Korea Electric set up the venture last year with Deutsche Bank and Shanxi International Electricity Group, according to the statement to the exchange.
The three invested a combined yuan 10 bn ($ 1.44 bn) in the venture, in which Korea Electric owns a 34 % stake.
