Punj Lloyd to upgrade refinery for IOC
09-06-08 India's private major Punj Lloyd said it has been contracted by the Indian Oil Corp. (IOC) to carry out construction work at its refinery.
The engineering firm said it had received the order from government-owned Indian Oil Corp. for construction-related works at the oil major's refinery in the town of Barauni. The company has informed the Bombay Stock Exchange that under the contract, it would upgrade IOC's refinery in Barauni in western Bihar state to improve the quality of gasoline to meet Euro-III emission norms for reducing vehicular pollution.
The contract entails engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning services. It is scheduled to be completed within 23 months, the communication informed.
The scope of work includes setting up of a reformat splitter unit, naphtha hydro treating unit, compressed air system and a nitrogen unit, among others, the company explained.
India's oil major had sought permission from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas to carry out
an expansion program at its Barauni oil refinery.
It invited tenders for construction-related work after the ministry approved the expansion proposal, an IOC official said.
