China to build three large refining bases
26-02-09 China will have three 30-mm-ton oil refining bases in Shanghai Municipality, Ningbo City of Zhejiang Province, and Nanjing City of Jiangsu Province in the future.
The country's National Energy Bureau worked out the planning, according to which rebuilding and expansion will be sped up for refineries like Zhejiang Zhenhai Refining and Chemical Co. and Guangdong Maoming Petrochemical Co.
Large refining projects will break ground in Shanghai, Guangzhou, Quanzhou City of Fujian Province and Sichuan Province. Crude oil suppliers of Venezuela, Qatar and Russia will set up large joint venture refineries in China.
Finally, large refining bases with annual capacity exceeding 20 mm tons will be established in Maoming, Guangzhou, Quanzhou and Tianjin. In three years, China's refining capacity will reach 440 mm tpy.
In 2008, the country produced crude of nearly 190 mm tons, climbing 2.3 % from a year earlier, citing the data from the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association (CPCIA).
