Petronet commissions new LNG capacity at Dahej terminal
16-03-09 India's Petronet LNG commissioned 5 mm tpy of new capacity at its Dahej terminal, a company official said.
"We commissioned the new capacity two days ago, Amitava Sengupta, director, finance, Petronet LNG said. The new capacity would increase the total nameplate capacity of Dahej terminal from 5 mm tpy to 10 mm tpy.
Meanwhile, with the existing terminal being able to handle 6.5 mm tpy following debottlenecking, the expanded Dahej terminal would be able to handle 11.5 mm tpy of LNG.
The new capacity created adjoining to the existing tanks, has two new LNG storage tanks and a new regasification facility. Two new tanks have been constructed by Japan's IHI Corporation and its Indian partner Punj Lloyd. Two tanks were handed over to Petronet over January-February this year by IHI Corporation.
PLL receives 5 mm tpy of term LNG supply from RasGas of Qatar in addition to short term supply that Petronet has tied up for Ratnagiri Gas and Power Private Limited. From September 2009, Petronet willstart receiving an additional 2.5 mm tpy of term LNG, which was originally envisaged for Petronet's Kochi LNG terminal coming up in South India.
The Kochi terminal would be commissioned during the first quarter of 2012, said Sengupta adding that Petronet is considering long-term as well as short-term supply of LNG for the Kochi terminal.
