12-03-09 OMV has started natural gas production from the extended Latif-1 well in Pakistan, 100 km from Sukkur in southern Sindh Province. The fast-tracked project will produce 1,000 boepd during the first three quarters of this year. Production will then rise to 4,000 boepd when the Latif-2 well is drilled in the fourth quarter.
"The new Latif gas reserves are the result of continuous successful exploration efforts of OMV together with its [joint venture] partners in Pakistan to enhance domestic gas production in Pakistan," said OMV.

Gas is transported through a 23 km pipeline to the OMV-operated Kadanwari gas plant. The company sells the gas to Karachi utility, Sui Southern Gas Co., which will distribute it in Sindh.
OMV and its partners, ENI and Pakistan Petroleum Ltd. (PPL), will submit a field development plan to Pakistan's government with the intention of boosting Latif gas production beyond 2011.

In March 2007, the exploration well reached a TD of 3,520 m and penetrated 18.7 m net gas/condensate pay in three layers at depths of 3,200-3,450 m. The well tested over 1,700 boepd from the tested zones under preliminary tests.
OMV's current production in Pakistan is 17,000 boepd. It operates the block with a 33.4 % stake. ENI and PPL each hold 33.3 %.
