Sinopec's Fujian project to be operational in June
26-03-09 The integrated refining and ethylene facility launched by Sinopec in Southeast China's Fujian province is expected to go into operation at end-June this year. Upon operation, the annual refining capacity of Fujian Refinery Petrochemical will be expanded from 4 mm tons to 12 mm tons.
According to an earlier announcement by the local planning department, 93.93 % of the total investment, an equivalent of yuan 32.088 bn, had been put in place, and 99.67 % of the scheduled progress had been completed by end-February.
The project involves 50 % of investment by the Fujian Refinery Petrochemical Company, 25 % by Saudi Aramco Overseas Co. and another 25 % by ExxonMobil (China) Chemical Co., regarded as the first Sino-foreign joint venture project of upper/down-stream integration in China's petrochemical sector.
It aims to improve the company's ability of refining sour crude imported from Saudi Arabia.
The facility includes an 800,000-ton ethylene cracking unit, 650,000-ton polyethylene unit,
400,000-ton polypropylene unit and 1-mm-ton aromatic unit.
It is learned that the project has been included into China's petrochemical industry booster plan.
