25-04-02 The Federal Electricity and Water Authority (FEWA) of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has selected gas turbines from GE Power Systems for the expansion of two power plants in Nakheel and Qidfa.
Under a contract of $ 60.5 mm, GE will supply one MS9001E gas turbine-generator for each site. Rated at 123.4 MW, the units will operate on natural gas as the primary fuel, with light distillate as the secondary fuel. Power generated by the new machines will be added to the UAE's electricity grid.
The gas turbines were manufactured in GE Power Systems' Belfort, France facility. The Qidfa unit was shipped in the first quarter of this year with commercial operation to begin in February of 2003. The Nakheel unit is scheduled for shipment in the second quarter of this year with commercial service by April of 2003.
