09-05-02 Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) confirmed that it had received orders for five suezmax tankers from three different owners on 9 May in deals worth a total of $ 251 mm. Greek owners Metrostar and NS Lemos have each ordered two 160,000-dwt tankers from the South Korean shipbuilder, Samsung confirmed.
Metrostar, which is controlled by Theodore Angelopoulos, is expected to take delivery of its ships in the last quarter of 2003 and early 2004.
SHI also confirmed earlier reports that Bergen-based Viken Shipping has ordered a high-spec suezmax against a seven-year charter to Navion of Norway. The ship will be delivered in late 2003.
Samsung also said it had won an order to build an offshore oil platform for US-based MODEC International.
