08-05-02 Alstom Philippines is about to win a contract from state-run National Transmission to supply and install a system to run the wholesale electricity spot market that is to be set up, the energy department said.
Under a deregulation law passed last year, electricity will be traded on a spot market. Generators will compete against each other to supply power to the grid. Government-owned power plants are to be auctioned off.
The actual award of the contract is expected to be complete this month and the electricity spot market operational by September. A government evaluation committee said Alstom Philippines has the highest evaluated bid score among the four proposals that were submitted.
