Bharat Heavy Electricals wins contract in Oman

07-05-02 An online bidding process has resulted in Indian state-owned company Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) being awarded a contract worth 2.67 bn rupees ($ 54 m) to build a 140 MW natural gas-based power plant in Oman. In a statement BHEL said that the deal was a prestigious order and marked "another breakthrough in the international market".
The order from Petroleum Development Oman is for the supply, installation and civil construction of the 2x70 MW Gas Turbine (Frame 6FA) based power station on EPC basis for its project at Qarn Alam, Muscat. The project is scheduled for completion by June 2004.

During the year 2001-02, BHEL's has secured 8 bn rupees worth of orders with forays into the Chinese, Central Asian and African markets. "Further success through online bidding has also given impetus to E-commerce initiatives in the company," said BHEL.
The Indian federal government is a 67.7 % owner of BHEL.
