10-06-02 Abu Dhabi-based Dolphin Energy said that it has named Halliburton's unit Halliburton Brown & Root as project manager for the Al Ain-Fujairah gas pipeline project in the UAE. Dolphin Energy -- a joint venture between the UAE Offsets Group, TotalFinaElf South Africa, and Occidental Petroleum -- also said it has short-listed two firms for the project's engineering, procurement and construction.
The two construction companies -- India's Dodsal and a partnership of the Paris-based Technip-Coflexip and the local Al Jaber Energy Services -- were selected from a list of five firms that bid on the $ 65 mm project in early April. Dolphin Energy said it expects to select one of the firms by the end of June to begin construction immediately.
The contract is for the construction of a 182 km, 24-inch pipeline from Al Ain to Qidfa in the emirate of Fujairah, and a pressure-reducing metering station at Qidfa.
The pipeline will be able to pump up to 360 mm cfpd of natural gas to a power station and waterdesalination project of the Union Water and Electricity Co (UWEC). The UWEC project is expected to be completed in August 2003, while the pipeline should be commissioned by September 2003.
