06-06-02 ABB said it won a $ 115 mm contract from Mexico's national power company, Comision Federal de Electricidad (CFE), to build a 242 km high-voltage power transmission line between the Manuel Moreno hydroelectric plant and the national power grid. ABB said this is the fourth large transmission project it has been awarded in Mexico since the end of 2000.
Working with Mexico-based consortium partner Techint, ABB will construct the first 242 km of overhead transmission line between Manuel Moreno and the Juile substation, including advanced fibre optic links and integrated control systems, and will build a new substation at Cerro Del Oro, the company said. The new transmission system is scheduled to start operations at the end of 2003.
ABB added the contract is part of an overall $ 269 mm plan by CFE to develop Mexico's electrical infrastructure and involves building around 600 km of 400-kilovolt overhead transmission line to improve the link between the 1,500-MW plant at Manuel Moreno, in the
south-eastern state of Chiapas, and Tecali in the central region.
