BP contracts Hyundai Heavy Industries for offshore platform

03-06-02 BP, the operator of the Shah Deniz gas deposit development project in the Azerbaijani section of the Caspian Sea, has decided to contract Hyundai Heavy Industries of South Korea to build a self-elevating offshore platform.
The $ 200-mm platform is needed for the first phase of the project, which will call for a $ 2.6 bn investment.

The BP decision is yet to be approved by Azerbaijan's authorities.
