Dec. 9, 1997 Pemex Exploracion y Produccion has awarded CCC Fabricaciones Y Construcciones S.A. de C.V., (CCC) - a company jointly owned by Global Industries, Ltd. and Grupo Consorcio de Fabricaciones Y Construcciones S.A. de C.V. - three major offshore contracts valued at around $ 160 million. Under the terms of the contracts, the first of which is scheduled to begin before the end of the year, CCC will perform a range of offshore construction and support activities for Pemex in the Bay of Campeche.
Under the terms of the first two contracts, which are expected to take approximately 12 months to complete, CCC will support the development of Pemex's Cantarell Field. The scope of work includes laying and burying multiple 16-inch, 24-inch and 36-inch diameter pipelines in approximately 158 feet of water. In addition, CCC will procure, skid-mount and pre-commission 5 booster turbo-compressors for the project, and will provide extensive technical assistance and training during the installation and start-upphases.
Under the third contract, CCC will design, procure, lay, bury and test 30 km of 36-inch diameter pipeline linking the Akal J Complex to Pemex's floating storage offloading unit FSO-1. This pipeline will be installed by Global's newly acquired pipelay barge DLB 323. CCC also will be responsible for designing, fabricating and installing a pipeline-end manifold (PLEM) and a 36-inch diameter side-tap. Preliminary work has already begun, with the offshore installation phase scheduled to commence in the Spring of 1998.
Global Industries established its presence in Mexico in Dec. 1996 with its acquisition of a 49 % interest in CCC as part of its strategic expansion into key international areas identified as offering potential for long-term growth and profitability.
