Pertamina awards gas contract

Dec. 8, 1997 A business owned by two sons of President Suharto will transport LNG to Japan under a $ 180 million contract with Indonesia's Pertemina.
The 15-year contract was signed by Pertamina and PT Humpuss Intermoda Transportasi Tbk, a private firm belonging to Group Humpuss. The business group is owned by Sigit Harjojudanto and Hutomo "Tommy'' Mandala Putra, two of Suharto's three sons. Under the deal, the Humpuss company would be responsible for procuring and operating a $ 80 million freighter for the gas with a carrying capacity of 22,500 cubic meters (787,500 cubic feet).
The freighter would be built at the NKK Corp.'s dockyard in Japan and financed by a Japanese consortium on a lease basis. It will be delivered late in the year 2000. Chief Japanese buyers of Pertamina's LNG are Hiroshima Gas Co., Nippon Gas Co. and Osaka Gas Co..
