TransAmerican appoints Shaw as general contractor

Oct. 5, 1998 TransAmerican Refining Corporation announced that it had appointed The Shaw Group to act as general contractor for construction at its Norco, La. refinery. Shaw will perform substantially all of the remaining construction work relating to the completion of the Capital Improvement Project underway at the refinery.
Glenn McGinnis, TransAmerican president and CEO, commented, "The appointment of a general contractor at this time is a significant step in our goal of finishing the project on time and on budget.

Raytheon Engineers & Constructors and Fluor-Daniel will remain as engineering contractors to complete detail engineering on the FCC unit and Alkylation unit respectively. Shaw's participation on the project, which is scheduled for completion by the end of March 1999, will begin immediately.
This contract will largely replace the construction services previously provided by Southeast Louisiana Contractors and includes time and budget incentives.
The Shaw Group Inc. is a leading supplier of piping systems and provider of industrial construction and maintenance services primarily for the electric power, chemical, petrochemical and oil and gas processing industries world-wide.

TransAmerican Refining owns & operates a large refinery, located near New Orleans, undergoing a capital improvement program that will allow it to process 200,000 bpd of mixed feedstock, including a large component of heavy, sour crude.
