Sept. 29, 1998 A consortium of Raytheon Engineers & Constructors and Mitsubishi Corporation has been awarded a lump-sum, turnkey contract worth more than $ 300 mm for a new power plant to be built in Kingsnorth, Kent, England.
Under the contract with Entergy Power Group, Raytheon will provide engineering, procurement, construction, start-up, and commissioning services for the 775 MW plant. Mitsubishi will supply gas combustion turbines, heat recovery steam generators, and a steam turbine manufactured by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd.
Work will begin immediately, with the project scheduled to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2000.
The project is the second one Entergy has awarded to the Raytheon and Mitsubishi consortium in England during the past year. Raytheon and Mitsubishi currently are building a 1200 MW power plant for Entergy in Hull, England under a contract worth more than $ 400 mm.
Kingsnorth Power Limited, a special-purpose company established by Entergy, will own and
operate the new Kent facility, which will be known as the Damhead Creek Power Station. The facility will operate as a merchant plant, with electricity sold to the UK national power grid.
"These 2 plants, with their combined capacity of approximately 2,000 MW, represent an important part of future electricity generating capacity in the UK," said Shay Assad, president and chief operating officer for Raytheon Engineers & Constructors.
