Elsag Bailey awarded 2 significant orders

Sept. 29, 1998 Elsag Bailey Process Automation N.V. has received 2 significant orders for its Symphony Enterprise Management and Control System. Totalling nearly $ 20 million, the contracts provide for supply of the Elsag Bailey systems for a natural gas processing complex in Abu Dhabi and a new chemical plant in Germany.

The first contract was awarded by Technip/Bechtel Joint Venture in conjunction with the Onshore Gas Development Project Phase II in Abu Dhabi. Booked by Elsag Bailey Hartmann & Braun S.A. of France, the project covers supply of Symphony systems plus a range of professional services including engineering, configuration, installation, and commissioning. The flagship Symphony system was selected to optimise operations at the new natural gas processing plant while doubling the capacity of Elsag Bailey systems already installed at the site.

In addition, BASF Group has awarded a contract for automation of its new polymer dispersions plant in Western Germany. According to company officials,Elsag Bailey was selected for the project in part due to its aggressive support for leading-edge fieldbus communications technologies, including the Profibus and Foundation Fieldbus standards. Utilising the Profibus DPV1 standard, the installation at BASF will substantially reduce field wiring costs while permitting centralised configuration and maintenance of automation components. The new contract was booked by Elsag Bailey's Germany subsidiary, Hartmann & Braun GmbH & Co. KG.
