Sonatrach and BHP find oil in Algeria
Sept. 4, 1997 Algerian Sonatrach and Australia's BHP Petroleum have announced a new oil discovery in the perimeters of Rhourde Louh Sif Fatma, where the two companies operate under a $ 62 million exploration and development contract.
According to a statement, the discovery is located in the Rhourde Ouled Jjemaa (ROD 1) well, which has tested at 5,526 bpd at a pressure of 540 psi.
The discovery follows one announced in may by the two companies in the Bir Sif Fatma North.
The PSC, over 10 years, covers an area of 9,000 sq. km in south-eastern Algeria. The work required includes 1,800 km of seismic acquisition, 500 km of seismic processing and the boring of 8 exploration wells.
