Anadarko finds oil in Algeria

Sept. 2, 1997 Anadarko Petroleum Corporation said the Rhourde Oulad Djemaa (ROD) No.1 exploratory well was successfully completed on Block 402 in the Ghadames Basin of Algeria's Sahara Desert. Partners in the well include the operator BHP Petroleum (45 % operating interest) Anadarko (27.5 %), LASMO (13.75 %) and Maersk Oil & Gas (13.75 %).
The ROD-1 well tested at a rate of 5,526 barrels of 43 degrees API oil per day (bpd) through an 80/64-inch choke with 540 pounds of flowing tubing pressure. The ROD-1 well is located 10.5 km (6 miles) north-east of the BSFN-1 discovery, which was announced May 29 by BHP Petroleum. The BSFN-1 well tested at 5,570 bpd of 42 degrees API oil from a Triassic TAGI sandstone. Further evaluation is needed to determine if ROD-1 is connected to the BSFN field, and a delineation or appraisal well -- the BSFN-2 -- should be drilled second half of the month.
