Hess finds gas on Australia's North-West Shelf

21-07-08 US independent Hess has hit 151 feet of net gas pay with the Briseis-1 exploration well on licence WA-390-P on Australia’s North-West Shelf.
The well, which is the second of four exploration wells being drilled on the permit, discovered natural gas in the Jurassic and Triassic sandstones, in line with pre-drill estimates.

This latest success follows the Glencore-1 probe, which was announced as a discovery on 10 June with 92 feet of net gas pay.
“While we are still in the early stages of our exploration programme in Australia, the results of these first two wells reinforce our view of the high impact potential of the WA-390-P permit,” Hess’s president of exploration, John O’Connor, said.

Briseis-1 was drilled in 3668 feet of water by the semi-submersible rig, Jack Bates. Following the completion of the Briseis-1 well, the Jack Bates rig will move 25 km south-west to drill the Nimblefoot prospect, which will test a separate structure in the same permit.
Hess holds a 100 % interest in the 780,000 acre WA-390-P licence.
