Inpex and Total find Browse Basin gas

07-08-08 Inpex and Total made a gas discovery with the Mimia-1 exploration well on the WA-344P permit in the Browse Basin offshore Australia.
Drilled by semisubmersible Songa Venus, a 72-metre (236-ft) gas column was found and a production test completed that confirmed the gas and condensate discovery.

The Mimia-1 well was drilled in a water depth of 254 metres (833 ft) and is 20 km (12 miles) northeast of WA-285P (Inpex 76 % ownership, Total 24 %), which contains the Ichthys gas-condensate field.
The Ichthys field holds close to 13 tcf recoverable gas and 530 mm barrels of recoverable liquids.

Operator Inpex (60 %) and Total E&P Australia (40 %) acquired the WA-344P exploration acreage last November and completed the Mimia-1 well in July.
Inpex and Total are preparing the development of the Ichthys field and are considering how the Mimia discovery could best be incorporated into this development.
