New gas field discovered in Central Karakum desert of Turkmenistan
04-08-08 Turkmenistan has discovered a large gas condensate field in the South Gutlyayak field in the Central Karakum desert, 110 km to the north-west from the Turkmen capital. The field has produced about 200,000 cm of gas condensate a day.
A productive layer was hit by drillers at the depth of 4,040-4,060 meters during test drilling at well N 1, the Turkmengeologiya state corporation told.
The South Gutlyayak is quite a large gas condensate bearing field, the Turkmengeologiya state corporation said. According to the geophysical survey, the successful drilling of the first well has proved the significant potential of the field situated in the oil and gas bearing area of Kyrk Gozly.
It is reported that field explorations are currently under way that would make it possible to specify the field structure and assess the potential reserves in the field as well as to agree on the direction of further explorations.
