Murphy strikes oil and gas offshore Malaysia
12-06-09 Murphy Oil has made two additional discoveries on its acreage offshore Malaysia. The first discovery was made at the Siakap North prospect in Block K, offshore Sabah, Malaysia, while the second discovery was at the East Patricia prospect in Block SK 309, offshore Sarawak, Malaysia.
The Siakap North discovery is 6 miles (9.7 km) from Murphy's Kikeh field in approximately 4,300 feet (1,311 m) of water. The well, which was drilled by Diamond Offshore semisubmersible Ocean Rover, encountered oil-bearing pay sands of a similar age and quality as Kikeh. Development options, including a tieback to Kikeh, are being evaluated.
Murphy holds an 80 % interest and serves as operator. Petronas Carigali, the wholly owned exploration and production arm of Malaysia's Petronas, holds the remaining 20 % interest.
The East Patricia discovery well found approximately 230 feet (70 m) of net natural gas pay when it was drilled by jackup Hercules 208 in 89 feet (27 m) of water. East Patricia is 23 miles (37 km)from the Bintulu onshore gas receiving facility currently under construction for the sanctioned Sarawak natural gas development.
Murphy maintains a 60 % operating interest in East Patricia.
Petronas Carigali holds the remaining 40 % interest.
