Focus Energy strikes gas in India
19-08-09 AIM-listed Indus Gas, an oil and gas exploration and development company with assets in India, has announced that while drilling a new well, Eastern Promise-1, Focus Energy, the Operator, intersected a gas bearing interval at a depth of around 3,175 to 3,183 metres in the Early Cretaceous Pariwar formation.
During initial testing of the zone, gas flared continuously for 4 hours. The company intends to do further drilling and testing in this well.
The well is located in Block RJ-ON/6, in the Indus Basin in Rajasthan. The Indus Basin straddles eastern Pakistan and western India.
Several oil and gas discoveries have been made in the surrounding blocks and extensive exploration has been further committed in this region. The well is 16.8 km south of the SGL-1 gas discovery within the same block.
Block RJ-ON/6 contains two existing gas discovery areas -- SGL, which was announced in May 2006 and has since been declared commercial by the Operator in January 2008, and SSF, announced in
February 2008 and yet to be tested.
There are also several other prospects and leads which are under exploration and/or appraisal.
